Google Gadget API Compatible! By Ryan P. on February 5th, 2008

Yup, we are now GoogleGadget API Compatible. I’ve just returned from a meeting with the tech-team where they showed us the GoogleGadget API compatability. Being GoogleGadget API compatible is an important first step in being OpenSocial compatible since OpenSocial is an extension of the Google Gadget API.

Did I mention this it was an internal presentation?? Which means you have to wait a wee bit longer till we roll it out on Remindo.com. Of course, we are a little away from full compatibility, and having to iron out the last few glitches is always going to be tiresome.

So what exactly does this mean? To begin with, you can add a Google widget(or any other widget for that matter) by simply copying the HTML/XML code into the little box provided for adding a widget. That’s the easy part. Soon, you’ll also find that we’ve created a widget directory which contains widgets that we think you are most likely to find useful in your day to day work. Additionally there could also be some widgets like a Sports tracker that all of you would find useful even though it has nothing to do with your work

In the meantime, developers would also have created their widgets that they would like to see on Remindo. This too will go into the Remindo widget directory where other users will be able to add them to their page and be able to rate it and give feedback and generally make the developers’ life miserable. Of course, we will have a support and feedback forum to help out the developers and you can always join in for a quick look-see.

Good times ahead !

I have been reading about remindo since a while, on your website itself.. progress seems very very minuscule and slow!

Don’t u feel the industry has moved faster?!

Pete, we have lots going on “under the hood”, such as performance improvements which have made Remindo a faster site, we also did lots of good work with content so that when users sign up they get ready customized content on their page.

Feb & March should see lots more visible additions such as widgets working on Remindo.

Thanks for reading and giving us your feedback, we will keep it in mind !

Hey Pete,

Over the past few months we have been optimizing the main Remindo application before we integrate it with OpenSocial since we want to be doubly sure that the user’s data is secure and private.

As far as the industry moving faster is concerned, we do realize that everyone and everyone’s cousin is coming up with APIs these days. However, we believe that a good and glitch-free product speaks for itself. Time is definitely something we’re racing against. In the next few months, we will release a host of new features. (The Remindo user community being one).

Thanks for your comment and for reading the blog all this while. For now, yes, we are lagging behind on the “visible” progress. Would, however, appreciate you joining the site and letting us know what you think of the features on the site at present.

Cheers,
