The OKE Integration explained through a running race

Within the examination process, multiple systems often work together. Think of a student information system, a scheduling application, and an assessment delivery platform. But how do these systems ensure they share the right information at exactly the right moment? In this blog, I explain how the OKE integration (Education Examination Integration) works and what it means for organising an efficient and reliable assessment process.

The OKE Integration is like a running race

I often compare the OKE integration to a running race.

Before the race starts, it is decided who will participate and what the rules are. This is similar to scheduling an exam from the planning application into the assessment delivery system. Participants are prepared and verified in advance.

During the race (the exam session), everything is monitored. The “referee”,  in other words, the invigilator — supervises the process and ensures everything runs according to the rules.

As soon as a participant crosses the finish line and the result is official, it is shared across the media. In the examination process, this means that once assessment results have been finalised after the exam session, they are automatically sent back from the assessment delivery system to the planning system.

An important point here is that data is only exchanged when an event takes place. No race (exam session) means no data exchange.

What exactly does the OKE Integration do?

The OKE integration enables different systems within the examination process, such as the SIS, assessment planning system, and assessment delivery system, to communicate with one another. This communication does not occur continuously but only when something occurs, much like the start of a race. In practice, this could be when an exam begins or when results become available.

Instead of constantly synchronising data, the systems exchange information only when necessary. This makes the process more efficient and reduces the risk of errors.

More control over your examination process

The OKE integration helps educational institutions organise their examination processes more efficiently and effectively. Just like in a running race, where everything runs smoothly when each step happens at the right moment, the integration ensures systems communicate precisely when needed. This reduces manual work and increases control over the process.

In combination with an assessment platform such as Remindo, it becomes possible to streamline and reliably manage the entire assessment cycle, from planning to analysis. This ensures that every “finish line” is automatically recorded and shared, without requiring additional manual actions.
